Does Buying A Franchise Really Make You An Entrepreneur

Here we go folks my question to you today is this if you buy into a franchise does that classify you as a true entrepreneur? I thought of this today because I was recently going through the top 500 list of the best franchises to get in on for 2011 which is over at the Entrepreneur dot com website and is by far the most comprehensive list of legitimate business opportunities for anyone that might want to pursue that type of business.

It got me to thinking though as I browsed through the long list of franchises is even though you are technically starting a new business in an area that does not have that service you are not actually creating or making anything new at all. The whole thing has been mapped out for you already and for the system to work you will need to follow all the steps of those that have done it before you. I would go so far as to say that buying into a franchise is nothing at all like being an entrepreneur but just a fancier type of employee with a lot more responsibilities.

A true entrepreneur to me is the person at the beginning of the process or idea the one’s that started the first business and built it up to the point where it could be copied and eventually franchised out. It’s those folks who have the original idea or vision to see a need in the market place and have the focus and drive to eventually fill that market need with their business. Those people are the real entrepreneurs and all the rest of us that are fortunate enough and smart enough to follow in their footsteps by buying into their franchises are merely shadows of the true entrepreneurs.

Now don’t get me wrong being able to stand in the shadows of someone that has a true entrepreneurial spirit has got to be a great feeling and one that I would love to experience for myself one day. Am I wrong in thinking that way though? Please by all means let me know folks with your responses down in the comments section below and as always happy birthday to you and bless your face ;-) Oh and for those of you that maybe want to see the list of the top 500 franchises here is a link for you, now you can’t say I never gave you anything.
