When it comes to being a successful entrepreneur one of the longest running and more successful schemes at doing so is getting in on a franchise or better yet starting your own franchise. Perhaps no better example of the kind of success your business can have when you start franchising out your business is the yearly list of most successful franchises in the land over at the Entrepreneur.com website.
This year marks the 30th annual release of their ranking and listing of the top 500 franchises in the land. I think one of the more interesting things to note when I look at these lists and going back to prior years and seeing that consistently when it comes to the top 10 more often than not it’s crowded with food related franchises.
Restaurants seem to dominate the list year after year which is funny when you think about the fact that everyone says that running a successful restaurant is one of the most difficult start ups to succeed at. Yet as is proven in the list year after year once you find that secret formula to success in the food industry there can be no stopping you.
Five of the top ten this year are restaurant chains and we all know their names too. You have Papa Johns, Pizza Hut and Sonic. Then you have the granddaddy of all franchises McDonalds and last but not least the king of franchises the last few years Subway. All five of these are established brand names with a solid track record.
The key to success for all of them of course is not that they all have great food because honestly I can find better burgers, subs and pizza at local places. Be honest burgers, pizza and subs are not hard menu items to make. No the key of course is that they have kept the product simple and they have mastered the franchising cookie cutter system to enable anyone with enough drive and capital to ensure their success.
